Introducing the new standard for Ponchos; O.P.S.E.C. (Oversized Poncho/Shelter/ Emergency Camouflage) Gone are the days when a poncho is just a poncho. Survival Solutions Innovative Gear has done it
again with an Oversized Poncho/Shelter/Emergency Camouflage unit capable of covering your body,
your rucksack and providing a shelter big enough to keep the elements off of you, your gear and some firewood too!
The O.P.S.E.C. poncho was specifically designed to fit in a cargo pocket as a multifunction piece of gear.
That way it could be carried on your person (base layer) in the event it was needed and when (for one reason or another) the
main pack has to stay behind (...anything can happen). It had to be light weight, stout in construction and waterproof. MADE IN U.S.A. It's constructed of 70 Denier
Coated Ripstop Nylon, the O.P.S.E.C. is tough and
light, weighing in at only 1.9 oz. per yard. When outstretched, it measures 104" long
by 59" wide! That's over 40 sq. feet of shelter! Try that with a standard issue
poncho in a downpour! It takes up a fraction of the space of a parachute panel, yet offers far
more protection against the elements. When not in use, the O.P.S.E.C. can
fit easily into a cargo pocket of your favorite BDUs.
For those who have actually packed in the rain, this will be a welcome design. How many times have
you thrown your poncho on in a downpour, covering your back pack while the back of your legs get drenched? The
O.P.S.E.C. is constructed so the back is adjustable. When wearing a rucksack/backpack,
the back of the poncho can be unsnapped and extend an additional 14" keeping you dry all the way around.
If you decide not to wear a back pack, you can shorten the back of the O.P.S.E.C.
with the snaps provided to a length consistent with the front. But the real fun is just beginning!
Those who have packed in without a tent, know that the field construction of a shelter is either labor
intensive, or needs lots of cordage to make it work. With the O.P.S.E.C.
a shelter can be built in minutes with no cordage whatsoever! Simply snap the back side of the
poncho around a horizontal log and stake the front end down. You've got a bivy in minutes. The only
way it gets easier than that is if you've got someone doing your work for you.
The O.P.S.E.C. now has
(7) 15mm ring snaps and (8) 3/8" grommets (an improvement in grommet size over the first production run that
had 3/16" grommets) just perfect to accommodate para-cord. Your poncho/bivy is ready for any method
of shelter construction you prefer. The hood uses 36" of para-cord as a drawstring (due to it's versatility) and a
cord-lock on each end.
When you want to blend in, the world is your playground! The shelters in these photos were set up in minutes and are for the expressed purpose of showing the capabilities of the O.P.S.E.C. With a little effort on your part and you can blend in to any surrounding area.
When you have to cover a lot of ground, you need to move quickly or weight is otherwise a factor, less
is more! Especially if you've got O.P.S.E.C. Made
by Survival Solutions Innovative Gear, right here in
the U.S.A.
