(Perfected) Cold Steel Pipe Hawk

Product Description

* Does NOT function as an actual smoking pipe

PIPE HAWK

Precision forged from 5150 carbon steel, the Pipe Hawk offers a long, reasonably wide cutting edge and a solid, fully hardened hammer poll that's turned and ribbed to mimic a hollow pipe bowl.  But that's where Survival Solutions Innovative Gear had to step in and make a good thing better.....

Cut, edged and grooved from the Cold Steel 22" fish-belly white hickory handle to 19" and stained to remove the "look at me" shine.  Then a polyurethane coat protects the wood before we wrap the handle with nearly 18 feet of 7 strand para-cord.

Weighing approximately 26 ounces it's heavy enough to be brutally effective as a chopping tool and weapon plus its solid bowl will drive nails, spikes and stakes with the power of a framing hammer.

Here's what George W. Jasper (author of the field survival manual 6 WAYS IN & 12 WAYS OUT, former U.S. Army Ranger and the commander and chief instructor with the United States Rescue and Special Operations Group and designer of The Swack Shack) has to say about our improved Cold Steel Pipe Hawk and Sheath;

"I can never say that I am a hatchet guy and by no means a real hawk guy. I have used hatchets since I was a kid but usually picked a machete in the long run because of the weight saved. i have swung a few hawks but again I never really wanted to hump the weight.

I spent the week-end with one of Survival-Solutions' hawks and it really has been a good experience. Well hell boys I'm not going to mince words I am really impressed! I did not think that I would say that when the weekend started. The sheath is half of what makes this tool what it is. Thick. I am guessing 8oz leather.

I started by hacking a few hard oak limbs that were about 2 inches in diameter. That went alright. I wasn't going to push the little blade edge past that. Then I got to staring at this 6 inch monster branch and thought 'hey, what the hell'. It took some whacking but it ate right through that dude. The most impressive part was that the edge was not affected the way most of my machetes have been. I have used them all to hack on this same fallen tree.

Later I used the hawk as a chisel while working on my deck down at the 'Spring' where I had limited tools. When I got it back to the house it sharpened so easy I was astounded. I said to myself and the Mrs., 'man this thing is impressive.' There are a lot of hawks out there that are great tools. Like I said I have swung more than a few, this one just happened to "fit" me right now. If I was humping to a camp site I would strap it on my ruck but for the most part it will probably ride in my rig."
